Alice E. Nelson, 94, resident of Elliott since 1987, formerly of rural Paxton, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton on Pells.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton with Rev. J. Kevin Wyckoff officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2025 at Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton and also one hour prior to the service Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Alice was born July 20, 1931 in Artesia Township, Iroquois County, Illinois the daughter of Martin and Milda Wolf Steinmann. She married Stanley F. Nelson on November 18, 1950 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley. He preceded her in death July 10, 2019.

She is survived by a son, Rick Nelson of rural Paxton; a daughter, Colleen Woodcock of rural Foosland; four grandchildren, Christopher (Sharon) Nelson of Elkhorn, WI, Michael (Amanda) Nelson of Paxton, Joshua Woodcock of Fisher, and Tracy (Cameron) Richardson of Dewey; six great-grandchildren, Carter Nelson, Henry Nelson, Owen Nelson, Oswin "Winnie" Nelson, Kaylee Richardson, and Lane Richardson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; one brother, two sisters, and a daughter-in-law, Pat Nelson.

Alice graduated from Buckley High School. She worked at Bear brand hosiery company after graduation until she married Stanley.

Alice was a farm wife and homemaker, sometimes helping in the field, but often working long hours gardening and canning fruits and vegetables for the winter, as well as assisting in the farrowing barn helping multiple mother hogs over the years deliver their litters of pigs. Stanley was a 4-H leader and Alice often helped with 4-H events by sewing costumes and assisting with skits and other projects and presentations.

Alice was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley where she sang with the choir in her young adult years, often as a featured soloist.

She and Stanley enjoyed both ballroom and modern square dancing. They were active members of the Levi's and Lace Square Dance Club and served numerous years in the presidency role. Alice liked to make many of the decorative square dancing outfits they wore. She also enjoyed eating out, visiting with friends, and driving around the Paxton area for local deer sightings.
