Arliss Dettmering was blessed with eternal life in heaven on June 20, 2021 at 5:00 a.m. at her home in Buckley at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 206 E Main St., Buckley with Rev. J. Kevin Wyckoff officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Buckley. Baier Family Funeral Services, Buckley is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the church and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Arliss Marie (Dippel) Dettmering was born in Buckley on January 4, 1936. Her parents were Frank and Esther (Hilgendorf) Dippel who preceded her in death.

She graduated from St. John's Lutheran Elementary School and then Buckley-Loda High School in 1954. This was the first graduating class from Buckley-Loda High School. Her education was continued at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois attaining a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

On April 10, 1949, she became a communicant member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Buckley where she was a life-long member.

Arliss married Kenneth Fred Dettmering on February 15, 1958 at St. John's Lutheran Church. After her first year of teaching, Arliss joined her husband in Germany. He was based at Turley Barracks in Mannheim, Germany. Their first child, Denise, was born in Heidelberg, Germany.

Arliss taught in area Lutheran schools: Salem, Jacksonville; St. John's, Ash Grove; St. Paul's, Woodworth and St. John's, Buckley. After her retirement in 1998 she became a teacher's aide at St. John's, Buckley until 2011.

Along with her husband, Kenneth, she is survived by her children, Denise (Eugene) Forster, Shari (Carey) Burklund, Tammy Wagstaff, Kevin Dettmering, Jodi (Tom) Tavenner, Lori (Dave) Carter, Beth (Dave) Perkinson; grandchildren, Megan, Brad, Rachel, Melissa, Brent, Tarryn, Amber, Brittny, Dalton, Amanda, Dan, Shannon, Eric, Tyler, Jessica, Allison, Camden and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Blake, Hadley, Kynsey, Kadence, Keaton, Kolden, Rylee, Maci, Kendrick and Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Ida Rascher and Ruth Dettmering; nephews and nieces, June, Leslie, Julie, Doris, Elaine, Donna, Ellen, Sue, Nancy, Glen, Dale, Gary, Steve, Dave and Joy.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Delmar (Joseleen) and Glenn (Verda) Dippel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elsie (Walter) Rascher, Art Rascher, Gladys Dettmering and Marvin Dettmering; nieces, Shirley and Betty; and nephews, Dwain and Duane.

Arliss served on the Human Care Committee, Historical Committee, Congregation Life Committee and was a member of Ladies Aid where she served as Vice-President and Secretary. Also, served as an officer on Lutheran Brotherhood board.

Singing in the church choir was a joyful part of her life. Singing and reading were some of her favorite pastimes. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that monetary memorials be given to St. John's Lutheran School, Buckley; St. Paul's Lutheran School, Woodworth; Christ Lutheran High School, Buckley or an organization of the donor's choice.
