Bette Ruth Thompson, 90, of Paxton passed away at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton Senior Living.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Pastor Dave Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Bette was born March 30, 1927, in Roselle the daughter of Charles Anthony and Florence Edna Mae Schellenberg Brendel. She married Robert N. Thompson June 19, 1944 at the Gladstone Park Lutheran Church in Chicago. He survives.

Along with her husband, Bob, she is survived by three sons, Robert N. (Shirley) Thompson, Jr., Mark D. (Jackie) Thompson, Richard S. (Lennth) Thompson; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; 1 brother, Roland Brendel and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons and two brothers.

Bette grew up in Chicago. After she and Bob were married, they moved their family to Paxton in 1948. The family left Paxton in the fall of 1966 for Streator for one year and then back to Chicago where Bette worked as a beautician and later attended the American Floral Art School. They enjoyed their time in Des Plaines but were happy to return to Paxton in 1976. Bette opened Bettes' Flowers and Gifts Shop in February 1976.

She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Paxton, the Prospect Chapter No. 367 O.E.S. and a former member of the Paxton Hospital Auxiliary and Paxton Jr. Woman's Club. She was very active in her church where she was a Sunday School teacher and chairman of the Lucia Fest for many years.

Bette was very talented; years ago she was one of the first people to color touch black and white photos . She also enjoyed restoring dolls. Her hobbies included crafts, cooking and baking. She always took pride in everything she did.
