Betty Lou Griswold, 84 of Gifford, passed away at 7:08 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, June 2, 2023, at American Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Rantoul with Rev. Jeanette Thorp officiating.  Burial will follow in Eden Park Cemetery, Rantoul.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the church.  Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Betty was born February 10, 1939, in Napoleon, Indiana, the daughter of Clarence and Sophia Fruchtnicht Abplanalp.  She married Phillip C. Griswold December 30, 1960, in Phoenix, Arizona.  He survives.

Along with her husband, Philip, she is survived by children, Kenneth (Wendi) Griswold of Mattoon, Brian (Madelyn Ott) Griswold of Peoria, Sharon (Robert) Godwin of Mattoon, Steven (Kathy Albers) Griswold of Gifford; three grandchildren, Robyn (Mark) Otto, Nicholas Godwin, Shaun Griswold and four great grandchildren, Xavier, Miranda, Alexander and Trenton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Betty graduated from Napoleon High School.  She was a military wife for 30 years and lived in numerous places.

She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Rantoul and the Rantoul American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed Chicago Cubs baseball, Illini basketball, sewing and gardening.  She especially enjoyed her tomatoes.  Betty's greatest joy was her family and grandchildren.
