Carl LaVerne Thompson, 84, of Paxton passed away at 9:24 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 at Glen Cemetery, Paxton with Rev. Tom Anders officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells, Paxton.

Carl was born in Paxton March 4, 1933 the son of Artie Franklin and Sylvia Imogene Fancher Thompson. He married Wanda Kelley May 30, 1953 in Carmel by the Sea, California. She survives.


Along with his wife, Wanda he is survived by; one brother, Howard Ray (Helen) Thompson of Gibson City; numerous nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, Steven (Sharon) Kelley of Waynesville, Missouri; and six sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, James Randall Thompson; and one brother, Frank Thompson.


Carl graduated from Paxton High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army for three years during the Korean War and at the time of his honorable discharge was a Staff Sergeant. He began working at D & R Drug Store after high school and went on to become the pharmacist. He then became an insurance broker for Johnson & Johnson Insurance for 30 years.

He was a member of the Paxton Church of Christ, the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150, a lifetime member of the Paxton V.F.W. Post 4214 and the Hoopeston Moose Lodge. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, traveling and playing cards.
