Obituary

Carol Ann Chesebro, 79, formerly of Jacksonville, IL, died Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Faith Place Memory Care in Danforth, IL.

She was born on May 19, 1944 in Sheldon, IA to Harold Wilson and Grace Virginia (Barlow) Chesebro who preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children, Grace (Scott Bloom) Van Moer of Chicago, IL, Sonja (Erik Merkau) Van Moer of Boston, MA, and Mark Van Moer of Champaign, IL; two sisters, Margo Chesebro (companion Gary Lipshutz) of Sioux City, IA and Mary Chesebro of Cedar Rapids, IA; one grandchild, Jack Bloom; and numerous Barlow Cousins.

Carol moved every few years throughout childhood, as her father's career as a JCPenney store manager took the family to various towns in northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska and southwest Minnesota. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in Marshall, MN in 1962 and attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, IA before returning to Marshall to start a family and where she also attended Southwest Minnesota State University.

After moving to Jacksonville in 1979, Carol graduated from Illinois College in 1981. Upon graduating she worked at Molines Nursing Home, then managed group homes for JAARC for many years, before finishing her career at the Morgan County Clerk's office.

Carol had a very strong sense of social responsibility as evidenced by her numerous volunteer activities for Jubilee Habitat for Humanity, the Morgan County Historical Society, the Women's Crisis Center, the League of Women Voters, the North East Economic Development Committee, the Democratic Women's Club, the Special Olympics, the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library, and many other organizations. She enjoyed antiquing, reading, traveling, and attending live musical performances. She loved socializing and going out to eat with her friends.

The family will have a Celebration of Life gathering at a later date. Baier Family Funeral Services,  Paxton is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial donations in memory of Carol are  suggested to Jubilee Habitat for Humanity, the Jacksonville Area Museum, or the Friends of the  Jacksonville Public Library.
