Obituary

Delmar E. Myers, 95, of Gifford formerly of Paxton died at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at Maranatha Baptist Church, 122 S. Chanute, Rantoul with Pastor Mark Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton with military honors accorded by the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. at the church. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Delmar was born May 24, 1922 in Heyworth the son of Harrison M. and Susie M. Tory Myers. He married Mildred A. "Midge" Givan on December 31, 1955 in Louisville, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2009.

He is survived by one brother, Alden (Karen) Myers of Albion, Indiana; one sister, Marjorie Coffin of Indianapolis, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; a brother, Miles Myers and two sisters, Dorothy Myers and Elsie Fowler.

Delmar graduated from Loda Twp. High School in 1940. He attended the University of Illinois ROTC in 1943. He was called into active duty and graduated from Officer Candidate School. He then went into Medical Administrative Corp attached to the Army Air Corp. and served for 4 ½ years during World War II.


In 1955, Delmar and Midge moved to Michigan and resided in Detroit, Taylor and Canton for over 35 years. Delmar was an executive with the K-Mart Corporation in the International Headquarters in Detroit, Michigan as the Food Equipment Buyer and Regional Food Manager and retired in 1984 after 37 years of employment. The couple returned to Illinois and lived in Paxton for ten years and moved to Gifford in 2003.

Delmar was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church, Rantoul. He attended many of the Detroit Lions and Tigers home games. He enjoyed fishing and reading.
