Delores Ann "Dorie" Gustafson, 84, of Paxton passed away at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Hawthorne Inn Manor Court Skilled Nursing, Danville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Pastor Dave Garver officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
Visitation will be two hours before the service from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Dorie was born September 26, 1934 in Rural Rankin the daughter of Harley and Nellie Headley Jones. She married Allen W. Gustafson December 5, 1953 in Paxton. He preceded her in death March 26, 1992.
She is survived by three sons, Randy (Lou Ann Shaffer) Gustafson of Rantoul, Gary (Debbie) Gustafson of Danville, Mike (Tracy) Gustafson of Fountain Hills, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Rick) Adkins, Carrie (Mark) Herrmann, Sonya (Cory) Uden, Sarah (Blake) Wells, Nicole (John) Meshell, Stacey (Lewis) Alexander, Brittany (Eric) Burton, Jill Harris; her great grandchildren; sister, Verna Shilts of Bayles Lake, Loda; nieces and nephews and a special friend of 26 years, Paul Mohr of Broadlands.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Sheryl Harris; sisters, Marjorie Foster, Alma Leota "Tootie" Thomason, Viola Kellar, Elsie Eichelberger; brothers, Merritt Jones and Ronald Jones.
Dorie graduated from Paxton High School in 1952 and from the Beau Monte Beauty School, Champaign in 1980. She farmed with her husband 1953-1967 and in 1981 she opened her own beauty shop at 147 S. Market Street, Paxton.
Along with being a homemaker and beautician, Dorie assisted her husband in their many businesses including rental property, cob transport company and Gus & Don's Thrifty Wash. They also renovated the Paxton Majestic Theatre and played an active role in running the theatre along with the theatre group. In 1995 they received the "Most Improved Building" award presented by Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce and Paxton Pride.
Dorie was a member of the Paxton Church of Christ. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. She loved her great grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them.
