Donald E. Alexander, 85, of Gibson City, formerly of Elliott, passed away at 9:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018 at The Villas of Holly Brook, Gibson City.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Friday, July 6, 2018, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells, Paxton with Rev. James C. Elder officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott Cemetery, Elliott with military honors.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Donald was born November 22, 1932 in Roberts the son of Merle O. and Tillie Blackmore Alexander. He married Mildred I. Cottrell December 21, 1952 at the United Methodist Church, Paxton. She survives.
Along with his wife of 65 years, he is survived by two sons, Bob (Lynette) Alexander of Gibson City, Doug Alexander of Bloomington; two daughters, Nancy (Dan) Hiner of Champaign, Linda (Paul) Smith of Mattoon; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a brother, Wayne (John Braum) Alexander of Kansas City, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mark Alexander.
Don attended Roberts Grade School and graduated from Paxton High School in 1950. He served in the United States Navy 1952-1956 during the Korean Conflict. Don worked in Civil Service at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul for 33 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook. Don enjoyed flying, building and refurbishing planes and was a member of the EAA Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a former Elliott Village clerk and had served as an election judge.
Don enjoyed golfing and traveling.
