Donald Eugene Gronemeyer, 91, of Paxton passed away at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 407 W. Pells St., Paxton with Father Nestor Sanchez officiating. Private family burial with military honors will be held in Glen Cemetery, Paxton at a later date.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells St, Paxton.

Don was born August 17, 1933 in Dayton, Kentucky the son of Eunice (Moebus) and Leslie Gronemeyer. He went to school in Cincinnati, Ohio graduating in 1951 from Hughes High School. Don married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Ann Bell on September 24, 1955 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, Connecticut. She preceded him in death February 18, 2021.

He is survived by five children, Kathryn (Robert) DeWaele of Summerville, SC, Dr. Robert (Jen) Gronemeyer of Munster, IN, Mary (Dave) Kiester of Manhattan, IL, Patricia (Jim) Wray of Beecher City, IL, Margaret "Peggy" Gronemeyer of Savoy, 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly and daughter, Susan Gronemeyer.

Don served during the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Central Soya Co. in Gibson City in 1995.

Don was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Paxton where he taught High School CCD, served as Lector and participated in some projects for the church. He was a past Grand Knight and Financial Secretary of the Knights of Columbus. Don was a member of the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150.

Don's interests included U.S. Politics, major league baseball and home building and improvement projects. He loved animals.
