Obituary

Donald Rives "Hutch" Hutchinson, 81, of Loda passed away at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells St, Paxton. Private family burial will be held in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Loda.

Donald was born December 2, 1941 in Las Cruces, New Mexico the son of Fred Rives and La Von F. (Carr) Hutchinson. He married Janis Carolyn Vianello on February 27, 1965 in San Diego, California. She survives.

Along with his wife of 58 years, Jan, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle D. (Ted) Antonucci of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Regina M. (Don, Jr.) Ptacek of Loda; six grandchildren, Christina, Anthony, Amelia, Lynsey, Justin, Travis; four great-grandchildren, Paxton, Ayden, Luca, Murphy; sister, Joyce A. (Richard) Chance of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two nieces, one nephew, three great-nieces and one great-great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Hutch graduated from Lincoln High School, San Diego, California where he was in the Air Force ROTC. He was a member of the Bonham Brothers Boys Band, San Diego marching in the Rose Bowl Parade. Hutch attended San Diego State University. He proudly served in the United States Army in the USAR ARMOR; was a 1203 Tank Unit Commander; 8th Admin Company 8th Infantry Division USAREUR; and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Hutch was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Rantoul. He was a customer service representative for Western Airline/Delta Airlines for 36 years.  Hutch was a bus driver for four years for the PBL School District and a Loda Village Trustee. He had 50 years of service with the American Red Cross in a variety of positions. He also was an Aquatics Instructor for many high school swim teams and a health and safety instructor with the ARC.
