Donald Wayne Ward (Don), of Bayles Lake, Loda IL, passed away peacefully at his beloved lake
home surrounded by family on December 30th, 2024.

He was born to Charles and Florence (Young) Ward on August 17th, 1932, and was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Douglas
Ward, a brother, James Ward, and sisters Evelyn Knutt, Martha Goodall, and Melba Donaldson.

Don married his high school sweetheart, Janet, and is survived by her. He is also survived by
three children, Bradley (Julie) Ward of Mahomet, IL., Jill (Scott) Fessler of Springfield, IL, and
Brent (Jamie) Ward of DeWitt, IL. Surviving grandchildren are: Jenna Ward, Braxton, Logan,
and Gannon Lanier, Max Fessler, and Brock and Jaden Ward.

After serving eight years in the United States Air Force with five years in active duty and three in
the reserves, Don attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he earned his
Bachelor's Degree. He later pursued and obtained a Master's Degree from Southern Illinois
University at Edwardsville. After spending eighteen years working at SIU Carbondale in the
capacities of Purchasing Agent and Director of Human Resources, Don accepted the position of
Assistant Vice President of Human Resources at the University of Illinois where he completed
his career by retiring after eighteen years of service.

Don was an avid Illini fan and spent many years as a member of both the University of Illinois
Rebounders and Quarterback Clubs. In addition, he was a member of the Loda United Methodist
Church, Lakeview Golf Club, American Legion, Lions Clubs in Carbondale, Champaign, and
Loda, and the SIU Alumni Association. Don served as President of both Bayles Lake
Homeowners Association and his professional organization, CUPA. Having service in his heart,
Don also was a mentor at Ludlow School, provided senior support at the Health Department,
delivered Peace Meals, and served as Director at the Hands of Christ food pantry.

To celebrate Don's remarkable life, we will gather on Saturday, January 4th at Loda United
Methodist Church, Loda, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service
immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Baier Family Funeral Service in Paxton is in charge of arrangements.
