Obituary

Douglas Alan Emkes, 67 formerly of Mahomet, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 1, 2026, in Urbana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at l0:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 501 W. State Street, Mahomet with Father Matthew Hoelscher officiating. Burial will follow at Huls Cemetery, Gifford.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6, also at the church with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville is handling arrangements.

Doug was born June 8, 1959, in Champaign the son of John W. and Norma J. Ellis Emkes. He married Peggy.

He is survived by one son, Kyle (Melissa); two daughters, Kelli (Travis), Kim (Chris); his parents; one brother, Kevin; two nieces, Cayla (Lyle); Regan (Clayton).

He was preceded in death by his son, Kolbe, his grandparents, Wilke and Anna, Harry and Irene, aunt Shirley and a sister-in-law, Teresa.

Doug graduated from Rantoul Twp. High School in 1977 and attended Parkland College. He was passionate about farming along with trucking and excavating. Working was his passion and he was always ready to help others.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Mahomet and active in OLOL Men’s Club, for a number of years. Doug took great pride in having helped with the building of the new church. He was also a member of the Eastern Area Cursillo and the Newcomb Twp. Board. He also built Habitat for Humanity homes in Champaign.

Doug was a lifetime supporter of the University of Illinois. He enjoyed his golf and hunting trips with his friends.

In lieu of flowers, Doug's Family requests any memorials may be made to the Eastern Area Cursillo, Our Lady of the Lake Men’s Club, Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation, or Illinois 4-H Foundation. Condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.baierfuneralservices.com.
