Edwin "Ed" Harding Havener passed away 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton Senior Living.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Loda with Rev. Tom Anders officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Loda American Legion Post 503. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ed was born August 20, 1920 in rural Melvin the son of John Edward and Easter Lilly Simmons Havener. He married Verneta J. Walker in 1963 in Elliott. She preceded him in death January 9, 1988.
He is survived by one son, Roy Havener of Paxton; two step-sons, Darwin (Sue) Brown of Marinette, WI, Rick Brown of Rantoul; five grandchildren, Jeff (April) Coe of rural Loda, Brenda (Tim) Grice of Cissna Park, Heather (Ben) Kolodziej of Georgia, Chris (Erika) Brown and Kira Brown; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Bette Robinson of Rock Springs, WY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one step-son Steve Coe; two sisters, Darlene Shambrook and Loetta Jervis; and one brother, Jack Havener.
Ed spent his childhood in the Melvin and Loda areas. He served in the United States Army and was in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a member of Loda American Legion Post 503.
He enjoyed mowing grass and gardening.
