Obituary

Elizabeth Grace (Mehrings) Engelbrecht, 94, of Paxton Illinois went to Heaven on May 19, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 S. College Street, Paxton with Rev. Debra Domeier and Rev. Priscilla Geerdes officiating. Burial will follow in Pontoppidan Lutheran Cemetery, Elliott.


Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

She was born in Avoca Township, near Fairbury, IL on October 8th, 1922 the daughter of Harry H. and Emma Frohling Mehrings. She married Victor William Engelbrecht on September 22, 1946. He preceded her in death April 15, 1999.

Elizabeth played an active role in the farming and Engelbrecht Implement business. Elizabeth loved hauling grain in the fall, drying the corn and plowing. In the spring, filling planters and working the fields with her husband Vic. At the same time taking care of fellow farmers looking for parts.

Elizabeth was a member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, Perdueville Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Ford-Iroquois home Extension. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends and watching the Cubbies.

She is survived by two daughters Ruth Ann (David) Graef of Papillion, NE; Betty (John) Vandevender of Hutsonville, IL; daughter-in-law Deb (Gregg) Phillips of Paxton; sister, Mary Ellen Sanders of Fairbury, IL. Grandchildren: William (Amy) Graef of Winter Park, FL; Phillip (Samantha) Graef of Rapid City, SD; Elizabeth (Chad) Cosat of Danville, IL; Jonathan Vandevender of Sullivan, IN; Victoria (Jason) of Danville, IL; Christopher (Crickett) of Mahomet, IL; and Kathleen Clark of Paxton, IL. Great Grandchildren: Georgiana, Maxwell, Charleston, and Henrietta Graef; Alexis Graef; Alex and Emma Cosat; Myra, Madyson, and Mylee Vandevender, Samantha and Sidney Dunavan, Justin Akers Junior, and Caleb Clark.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Victor Engelbrecht; son, Robert Engelbrecht; granddaughter, Rebekah Akers; sister, Margaret Johnson and great granddaughter Andrea Clark.


Elizabeth was respected, loved, and adored by many more throughout her years. Everyone got a hug when they met her.
