Elizabeth Mae
Gritton
Oct 31, 1926 — Dec 5, 2023
Elizabeth Mae (Higdon) Gritton passed away on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, at her home with her daughters by her side. She celebrated her 97th birthday on October 31st.
Elizabeth was born October 31, 1926, in Tazewell County, Illinois, to Elick and Ida Higdon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin D. Gritton (1999), her daughter, Connie Gritton Winter (2019), her parents, her sister Hazel Baily, and six brothers, Raymond, Homer, George, Charles, Elick Jr., and William Higdon.
She is survived by her two daughters—Julie (Mark) Lundvick of Jenison, Michigan and Lisa (Dennis) Upah of Austin, Texas; her son-in-law Wes Winter of Winslow, Illinois; four grandchildren-Brad (Amber) Lundvick of Hudsonville, Michigan; Alison (Ryan) DeVries of Hudsonville, Michigan; Megan (Jeffrey) Caliva of Houston, Texas; and Drew (Elizabeth) Upah of Houston, Texas. She was also the proud great grandmother of six.
Elizabeth and Marvin were partners in a dairy operation west of Paxton with W.F. Judkins for forty-four years until Marvin's passing. After that, Elizabeth continued on the farm the remainder of her life. She belonged to the Paxton First United Methodist Church for 70 years, United Methodist Women, Button Ford County Extension, 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, and Putt Club. She enjoyed her church activities, mowing, gardening, sewing, and most importantly spending time with her family. Nothing meant more to her than that.
Elizabeth's family would like to thank all of her family and friends that provided continued love throughout her 97 amazing years. We would also like to thank her in-home caregivers, along with The Transitions Hospice team, for providing such loving care over the past year.
Services will be held Saturday, December 9th, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells St, Paxton. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m., with the Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will immediately follow at Glen Cemetery, Paxton Illinois.
