Obituary

Evelyn M. "Evie" Rattenborg, 93, of Paxton, passed away at 10:31 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Accolade Paxton Senior Living.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Debra Domeier officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

As the youngest daughter of Joseph W. Neal and Fanny (Lightfoot) Neal, she was born in 1924 in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. Evie was the last survivor of nine children, Joseph, Jonathon (Jack), George, Harold, William (Bill), Nora (Poppe), Nellie (Couture) and Dorothy (Jenks).

Evie was married to Roy Rattenborg on November 13, 1945. They met in Florida during WWII. They left the day Roy was discharged from the Army Air Corps and were married in Valdosta, Georgia on their way to Iowa. Their marriage, which began on a farm in Hamlin, Iowa, journeyed to Sault St. Marie, Michigan and ultimately settled in Paxton, where Roy passed away on January 18, 2013. They celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Evie is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Williams of Peoria, Linda (Duane) Janssen of Buckley and Cindy (Lee) Koontz of Lewis, Iowa, as well as four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Evie was a member of the First Lutheran Church Paxton. She and her husband, Roy, were charter members of the Paxton Majestic Theatre Group and were instrumental in saving and restoring the theatre. As a diehard city girl, she developed all the skills to make a country home and was a dedicated loving mother and wife.

Through the years, she bowled, roller-skated, volunteered, and donated her time and talent to the community. She worked at various positions and locations throughout the area including the old A&P, Parsons Dry Cleaners and Bob and Hattie's Grocery in Paxton as well as head cashier at the Chanute Air Force Base Commissary. Of all of the jobs she held, the one she loved the most was running her own small business in Paxton, EVIE'S CRAFT & GIFT SHOP, where one could see her beautiful crocheted, knitted and sewn creations. Her family and friends have been proud recipients of these creations for several generations; particularly the handmade slippers which she gifted to every family member every Christmas from the time that she learned how to make them.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran High School, Buckley. Condolences may be offered at www.baierfuneralservices.com .
