Obituary

Evelyn Hammel Jarboe, 79 of Paxton died at 5:37 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 407 W. Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Dong Van Bui and Rev. Jose Kadukunnel officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Evelyn was born March 2, 1939 in Champaign the daughter of Jacob and Rozella Kissel Hammel. She married James P. Jarboe April 22, 1961 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Champaign. He survives.

Along with her husband Jim of 57 years, she is survived by four children; Jeff (Gigi) Jarboe of rural Loda, Ann (Robert) Diesburg of Paxton, Phil (Debra) Jarboe of rural Paxton, Becky (Doug) Wolken of Paxton; 15 grandchildren, Tony, Derek, Darren, Sean, Monica, Melanie, Sara, Amanda, Brittany, Jennifer, Deanna, Ben, Anna, Seth, Drew; great grandson, Rodney; three brothers, Bernard (Mary Ann) Hammel, Richard (Carol) Hammel, and Ronald (Mary) Hammel, all of rural Champaign.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Evelyn graduated from Champaign High School in 1956 and from the University of Illinois in 1960 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She taught third grade at Westville Elementary School, Champaign. She and her family moved to rural Paxton in 1967.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Paxton. Evelyn was a CCD teacher for 19 years, was very active in the CCW and had been Woman of the Year. She was also a member of the Ford County Historical Society and the Perdueville Ladies Club.

Evelyn enjoyed music, playing the piano, gardening and flowers. She was a kind and gracious lady; loving wife and mother and always looked forward to family gatherings.
