With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Floyd "Bud" Michael Otto, Jr., a beloved patriarch, dedicated farmer, and pillar of the Roberts community. Bud departed peacefully on June 9, 2026, at the Gibson Area Hospital Annex, following a courageous and extended stay.

Born on December 19, 1941, in Evanston, Illinois, Bud was the cherished son of Floyd Michael Otto, Sr. and Helen Marie Petrie Otto. He was preceded in death by his only sister, Helen "Cookie" Marie Otto Brooks Manuel who died in 2009. His formative years instilled in him a deep connection to the land and a lifelong commitment to his roots. The family extends their sincerest gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the compassionate staff at The Annex and Transition Hospice; their unwavering support and genuine kindness were an immense comfort during his final days.

Bud's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with dedication, community spirit, and enduring love. A true Roberts native, he spent his entire life immersed in the rhythms of his hometown. After graduating from Roberts High School, he briefly pursued a business degree at ISU. However, his true calling was not found in a classroom, but under the vast Illinois sky, tending to the cherished family farm and home that had been passed down through generations.

He shared many beautiful years with his first wife, Francene "Cindy" Oakleaf Otto. They met during their college days and exchanged vows on June 15, 1963, in Springfield, Illinois. Together, they built a family and nurtured a home until Cindy's passing in 2014. Their legacy lives on through their three children: Lora Lage (Scott Edgar), Michael Otto (and his wife, Jennifer) of Buckley, and Dan Otto (and his wife, Jessi) of Roberts. Bud was a proud and loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Brad (Ellen) Vaughn, Lauren (Adam) Lemenager, Austin and Alec Otto, and Dylan, Seth, and Liam Otto. His joy multiplied with the arrival of six great-grandchildren: Colt, Cade, Clay, and Ember Lemenager, and Stella and Brie Vaughn.

Later in life, Bud was blessed to find love and companionship once more with June Mills Bishop Otto. They were united in marriage on July 25, 2015, following the passing of June's first husband, Richard, in 2002. Their union brought immense happiness and a renewed sense of purpose to both their lives. Bud's family circle expanded to include June's children: Laura Hicks of Fisher, Tim Bishop of Paxton, and Tina White of Charleston, along with their respective children and great-grandchildren. We also fondly remember June's son, Richard Dean Bishop Jr., who preceded Bud in death.

More than just a farmer, Bud Otto was a foundational figure in his community, known for his relentless work ethic and generous spirit. One might often spot him with his trusty backhoe in tow, ever ready to lend a hand. He was a deeply devoted member of Living Word Church, serving on its board for many years and pouring his heart and soul into every endeavor. His unwavering belief in giving back was evident in his extensive service on the County, Township and Farm Bureau boards, and countless other community projects, always striving to make Roberts a better place for everyone.

Those who knew Floyd "Bud" Otto intimately understood his absolutely one-of-a-kind character. He possessed an incredible work ethic and an indomitable "never give up" spirit; if he set his mind to something, there was truly no stopping him. His generosity extended beyond his local community; he even earned his pilot's license, donating his time, plane, and resources to conduct vital lifeline flights for those in need. Bud had an extraordinary ability to brighten any day, always greeting others with a warm smile and a friendly wink, making everyone feel genuinely welcome in his presence.

We invite you to join us in honoring and celebrating the life of Bud Otto. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026 at Living Word Church, Roberts.  Following the service, Bud will be laid to rest at Lyman Cemetery in Roberts, with the compassionate assistance of Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton.

Visitation will be Monday, June 15, at the church from 10:00-11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
