Obituary

Frieda Marie Hyde, 90, of Tuscola, formerly of Paxton died Thursday, Dec. 18th, 2025, at home.

Frieda spent the majority of her life in Paxton. She was born in the apartment above the Paxton Market Street Barber Shop May 13, 1935, a daughter of Gorman and Vera Whitcomb. She married Floyd Russell Hyde on May 6, 1955. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, John (Paula) Hyde of Tuscola, Jim (Angie) Hyde of Deland, Fl, and one daughter, Lynda (Mike) Turner of Sequim, WA; one brother, Jon (Cathy) Whitcomb of Paxton; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Fred Whitcomb and three sisters: Jeanne Terrell, Dee Swan and Elaine Rule.

Frieda delivered newspapers as a young girl, worked at Northern Gas Company after graduating from Paxton High School and returned to work at True Value Hardware store after raising her children. Floyd & Frieda built a home and enjoyed retirement living at Bayles Lake and taking trips to interesting places including Hawaii and Israel.

Mrs. Hyde attended the First United Methodist Church in Paxton since childhood. She served as a Sunday School teacher, a Stephen Minister, delivered Meals on Wheels, and completed the Walk to Emmaus training. Along with being a member of the Methodist Women, Prospect Chapter 367 Order of the Eastern Star, Rainbow for Girls, and the American Legion Auxiliary, Frieda was a former Brownie Troop leader and member of several book clubs. She once told me, "I love people and helping them. If we love Christ this is what we do."

Memorials may be made to Paxton First United Methodist Church or an organization of the donor's choice. Condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.baierfuneralservices.com.
