Gary L. Reitz, 83, of Gibson City died at 8:02 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton on Pells.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026 at American Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibson City with Maynard Birkey officiating.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Baier Family Funeral Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gary was born at rural Paxton, a son of Wilbur and Gladys (Dale) Reitz. He married Judith Nelson on June 30, 1963 in Danville. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2026.

He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Reitz Diamond of Gibson City, Vickie (Kurt) Runyon of Fairbury; grandson, Kane (Tarrah) Runyon of Bloomington; great grandson, Nox Runyon; and two sisters, Kathleen Lewandowski of Libertyville and Betty (Jamie) Russell of Gilman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Judy and his brother, Steven Reitz.

Gary was employed at M&W Gear Co., Gibson City for many years. He started as a welder and over the years worked his way up to plant superintendent. After M&W, he worked for area farmers and ran his own recycling business. In his younger years, he rebuilt wrecked cars, restoring them back to like new.

He was a member of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibson City.

Gary enjoyed metalwork and woodworking and hand made all of his own wood trim while remodeling the family home.

He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels and had many years of enjoyment raising whitetail deer. He loved his dogs and cats through the years.
