Obituary

Hildegard Selma "Hilda" Luhrsen, 88 of Buckley, died at 4:36 a.m. Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Heritage Health, Hoopeston.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 302 S. Fourth Street, Cissna Park with Rev. Dale Fjordbotten officiating.  Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours before the service from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the church.  Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Hilda was born November 13, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Rev. Martin and Anna Naumann Freche.  She married Orval A. Luhrsen June 23, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Tuscola.  He survives.

Along with her husband, Orval, she is survived by four children, Sandra Kay Miller of Charlottesville, Virginia, Daniel William (Cathy) Luhrsen of Tennessee, Peggy Ann (Randy) Burgett of Goodwine, Nancy Lynn (Jeff) Street of Kenly, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Jean Freche of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gerhard Freche.

She graduated from Tuscola High School.  In 1981, she and her husband opened Luhrsen Star Market, Cissna Park.  They owned and operated the business until 2000.

Hilda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cissna Park and a member of the Ladies Aide.  She was also a member of the Cissna Park American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed bird watching and traveling and was always ready to eat ice cream.  Hilda loved spending time with her family.
