James E. "Jim" Davis, 83, of Paxton died at 3:46 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Paxton.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells, Paxton with Rev. John Hauck officiating. There will be a private family burial in Glen Cemetery.

Visitation will be prior to the service at the funeral home from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

Jim was born September 9, 1933, in Melvin the son of Noble and Bessie Foster Davis. He married Nancy Bement on August 7, 1970 at the First United Methodist Church, Paxton. She survives.

Along with his wife, Nancy, he is survived by his children: Pam (Bobby) Karr of Terre Haute, Indiana, Jody (Tim) Mayer of Rantoul, Mike (Kathy) Davis of Long Beach, California, Kim (Kevin) Young of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren, Kamie Owen, Charlie Karr, April Sams, Krista Hinckley, Kelly Cockayne, Sean Davis, Ryan Davis, Kyle Young, Kaci Isaksen; six great grandchildren: Madisyn, Corey, Alex, Kendall, Kadence, Tyson and two sisters, Evelyn Patton of Gibson City and Verna Yohn of Ypsalanti, Michigan.

Jim graduated from Paxton High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army for two years at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He retired from CIPS/Ameren after 37 years of employment as a lineman and local trouble shooter. Jim and his wife lived at Bayles Lake for 27 years before moving to Paxton in 2003.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Paxton, the Buckley American Legion Byron A. Hickerson Post 432, the Loda Sportsmans Club and the Illini Quarterback Club. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing and loved living at Bayles Lake. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren which included attending their sports events.
