Obituary

Janis June "Fizzel" Irvin Stalter, 87 of Gifford, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Country Health Care, Gifford.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton.  Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Rantoul.

Visitation will be two hours before the service on Saturday from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Janis was born November 19, 1938, at the Molloy home in Rantoul, a daughter of John A. and Eva E. (Chumbley) Irvin. She married C. George "Gorgeous" Stalter on June 10, 1956, at the Ludlow Church of Christ.

Surviving are five children, Kerry (Linda) Stalter of Florida, George Neil (Sandy Curtis) Stalter of Westville, John Edson (Jane) Stalter of Gifford, Jerry "JD" (Kathy) Stalter of Rantoul and Catherine "Angie" (Tod) Miller of Potomac; a sister, Kay (Rich) McCool of Seymour; a brother, Victor "Badeye" (Carol) Irvin of Penfield; 11 grandchildren, Kelly, Kathleen and Daniel Stalter of Orlando, Fla., Ryan Osterbur of Gifford, George Andrew Stalter of Potomac, Brittani (Brett) Fuller of Flint, Texas, Brandi Stalter of Mansfield, Robert Groberski of Parsons, Kansas, Ashley Morlan of Dickinson, North Dakota, Joe Stalter of Rantoul, and Jennifa Dix of Gibson City, 16 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by siblings Jerry Irvin, Lewis "Red" Irvin, Imogene Luttrell, Shirley Duncan, Kathleen Irvin, Roseann Cler and Mike Irvin, a grandchild, Kerry Stalter, and a great-grandchild, Alyssa DeLuca.

She worked as a tax assistant for Joe Kerr, as well as Country Health Nursing Home,

Gordyville Restaurant and Auction House, and Regina's Oasis. She proudly served as a member of the Champaign County Election Board and was president of the American Legion Post 287 Auxiliary for two years. She volunteered with the Ludlow School PTA and Cub Scouts when her children were young and played the piano at the Ludlow Church of Christ for many years. She also enjoyed creating floral arrangements for weddings. In her free time, she loved cooking for family and friends, bowling in league play and shooting billiards.
