Jennifer Jo Birkey, 70 of Dewey, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at her home after a 27 month battle with ALS.

A graveside service will be at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024, at East Bend Cemetery, Fisher.  A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Dewey Community Church, Dewey with Pastor Neal Hauser officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Dewey Community Church, 16 Third Street, Dewey.  Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jennifer was born March 19, 1954, in Bloomington the daughter of Merlo and Arvada Miller Zimmerman.  She met Maynard Birkey in March of 1974 and were united in marriage on August 16, 1975.  They have lived their entire 49 years at Greenwood Acres of rural Dewey.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard; two sons, Travis Birkey of Dewey, Tyler (Jenny) Birkey of Livermore, CA; two granddaughters, Hannah (Keegan) Morfey and Ryan Birkey; one grandson, Brock Birkey; a great granddaughter, Oaklynn Morfey, and her siblings Greg (Linda) Zimmerman of Flanagan, Dennis (Gretchen Keener) Zimmerman of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Lorna (Pete) Harter also of Fort Wayne, Indiana and ten nephews and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jennifer attended grade school and high school at Flanagan and then Taylor University in Upland, Indiana.  Along with being a full-time mom, she worked as a teller at the Bank of Rantoul and as an administrative assistant at Morgan Stanley and Everance, Fisher.

She was a member of the Dewey Community Church and a member of the Dewey Ladies Quartet.  She loved flowers, singing and playing the piano.  Her greatest joy was her family and grandchildren.
