John Joseph Thompson, 82 of Shelbyville; formerly of Paxton, died at 6:51 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2025, at his home.

Private services will be held at Glen Cemetery, Paxton.  Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

John was born November 11, 1942, in Chicago Heights the son of Shelby Dallas and Dorothy Poff Thompson.  He married Dorothy Mae Albertson October 13, 1961, in Paxton.  She preceded him in death December 4, 1994.  He married Bonnie Callahan October 11, 1998, in Paxton.  She survives.

Along with his wife, Bonnie, he is survived by one son, Michael E. (Laura) Thompson of Hoopeston; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Becky) Thompson of Shelbyville and a sister, Marlene Salyard of Phoenix, Arizona; and stepdaughter Lorraine Wernigk and 2 step grandsons Harley and Sebastian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, a son, Joe Thompson; four brothers, Michael, David, Paul and James Thompson; two sisters, Peggy Lee Schnieder and Shelby Jean; and stepson Bruce Carey.

John retired from Baltimore Air Coil, Paxton as a maintenance manager.

He enjoyed spending time with his many friends at the VFW and Moose Lodge.  John was an avid fisherman and looked forward to seeing the wildlife around the lake.
