John W. "Jack" Shilts, Jr., 90 of Paxton, passed away at 4:18 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Accolade Healthcare of Paxton Senior Living.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Tom Anders officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton with military honors accorded by the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150.
Visitation will be from 10:00-12:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Jack was born November 26, 1931, in Paxton the son of John W. and Mildred Jones Shilts, Sr. He married Marjorie Hendershott June 2, 1951 at the Ludlow Methodist Church. She preceded him in death September 26, 2011.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Greg) Whitcomb of Casa Grande, AZ; a son Rod Shilts of Mahomet; four grandchildren Krisha (Kurt) Shoemaker of Paxton, Randy Whitcomb of Scottsdale, AZ; Brett (Noemi) Shilts of Mahomet, Bryce (Kelli) Shilts of Charleston, SC; four great grandchildren, Parker Shoemaker, Brynlee Shilts, Haylyn Shilts, Riley Shilts; a sister Diane Weisenbarn of Paxton; a niece Jill (Jeff) Schrodt of Paxton and two great nephews, Drew (Kailey) Schrodt and Drake Schrodt.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Kristine Shilts and a niece, Lynn Weisenbarn.
Jack graduated from Paxton High School. He proudly served in the United States Army 1950-53. He received the Korean Service Medal and Bronze Service Stars United Nations Service Medal. Jack was a member of Ironworkers Local Union 380.
He was a member of the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150, Rantoul VFW and was a Shriner. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, enjoyed watching westerns, loved puzzle books and dogs.
