Josephine "Jo" R. Mabrey, 80, formerly of Strawn and Champaign passed away at 12:18 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Gibson City Area Hospital, Gibson City.

Services will be held at a later date, Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Josephine was born August 30, 1936 in Rockford the daughter of Vito and Jennie Pellegrino Genovese, Sr. She married Thomas Mabrey October 22, 1960 in Rockford. He survives.

Along with her husband, she is survived by two sons, Dave (Julie) Mabrey of Paxton, Jerry Mabrey of Paxton; two daughters, Jennie Mabrey of Kansas City, MO, Martha Mitchell of Kimberling City, MO; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother, Vito (Sindy) Genovese, Jr. of Indio, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Thomas O. Mabrey and Joseph David Mabrey.

Jo and her husband moved to Champaign in 1965 and then to Strawn in 1971. She was the head cook at Forrest-Strawn-Wing School District. In 1995 they moved to Ozark, Missouri where she attended St. Joseph the Worker, Catholic Church. Jo was a member of the Springfield, Missouri American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved cooking, reading and going out to eat.
