Lela M. Barringer, 95, of Gifford; a former Paxton resident, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1 ,2017, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. John Hauck officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
Visitation will be two hours before the service from 11-1 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Lela was born April 10, 1922 in rural Loda the daughter of Dave and Iva Schwartz Coplea. She married Earl H. Barringer on June 30, 1940 in Paxton. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1986.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna (Jerry) Ulrich of Scottsdale, Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Betsy Barringer of Savoy; two grandchildren, Chad (Cheryl) Barringer of Savoy, Ryan Ulrich of Phoenix, Arizona; a great-grandson, Drew Barringer of Savoy and extended family, Deb (Jim) Cleary of Gifford, Molly (Andy) Hammond and family of Thomasboro and Patrick (Kelly) Cleary and family of Rantoul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Barringer; a granddaughter, Tara Ulrich; eight brothers and four sisters.
Along with being a full-time homemaker, Lela worked at the Farm Inn Café, Corny's 5 & 10¢, Haffners, Bear Brand Hosiery, Electronics, Switchcraft and Paxton Purity Bakers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Paxton, the United Methodist Women and served on numerous church committees. She was a former member of the church Anti-Can't Class.
Lela was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed baking, embroidering and square dancing with her husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
