Lela M. Carder, 93 of Knox, Indiana; formerly of Paxton, died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Golden Living Center, Knox, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Tom Anders officiating. Burial will follow in Rankin Union Cemetery, Rankin.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at the funeral home.

Lela was born August 28, 1923 in Sidney, Illinois the daughter of Frank and Ressie McElwee Kirby. She married Ralph J. Carder February 21, 1942 in Armstrong. He preceded her in death September 21, 2008.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Skeeter) Hart of Knox, Indiana; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Lynn Carder; two brothers and one sister.

Lela was a cashier for Strack & Van Til, Highland, Indiana for over 25 years. Before returning to Indiana to be closer to her daughter in 2015, she had lived in Rankin and Paxton.


She was a member of the Paxton Church of Christ and the church women's group. She enjoyed oil painting and coloring books.
