Leslie "Leroy" Burgess, 69, of Mattoon, formerly of Paxton, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.

Funeral services will be 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton with Pastor Rob Dargan officiating.

Visitation will be 4:00-5:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Leroy was born February 13, 1956 in Paxton the son of Leonard Leslie and Nola Jean Pifer Burgess. He married Theresa Combs February 19, 1983 at the Community Christian Chapel, Paxton. She survives.

Along with his wife, Theresa, he is survived by two sons, Aaron Burgess of Rantoul, Brian Burgess of Mattoon; three brothers, Ronnie (Kathy) Burgess, Wesley Burgess, Larry (Betsy) Burgess; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Leroy Burgess; and sister, Carol Elders.

Leroy spent his childhood in Paxton. He worked at the France Broom Company of Paxton for many years. Leroy was a member of the Windsor Christian Church, Windsor and the Sons of the American Legion, Windsor.

He enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hiking and fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
