Mary Jo McCann, 80, a former Paxton and Rankin Resident passed away at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Villas of Holly Brook, Rantoul.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. John Hauck officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mary Jo was born May 29, 1938, in Danville the daughter of Paul L. and Doris U. Bevington Johnson. She married W. E. (Tim) McCann April 4, 1959 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist church, Rural Clarence. He preceded her in death February 8, 1998. She married Glen Hockenbury in 2005. He preceded her in death February 24, 2018.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Darrin) Voyles of Gifford, Donna Jo Smith of Sumter, SC; three grandchildren, Tim (Chelsea) Stanley of Loda, Tammi (Josh) Nettles of Rantoul, Timothy Smith of Sumter, SC; three great grandchildren, Katie, Ryan and Reagan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son-in-law, Billy Smith.
Mary Jo graduated from Paxton High School. She was a Civil Service Employee and was the Housing Officer at Chanute Air Force Base for 30 years. She then became manager and liaison for Hope for The Children, Rantoul.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Paxton, Button Twp. Home Extension, Rantoul Garden Club and past president and active member of the Paxton American Legion Auxiliary. She also served as Button Twp. Supervisor for many years.
Mary Jo enjoyed traveling, gardening, shopping, listening to country music, getting her hair done and social media. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
