Melvin Swartz Webster, 91, of Rantoul formerly Fisher passed away at 10:40 a.m., Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Heartland Healthcare Center, Paxton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Rantoul First United Methodist Church, 200 S Century Blvd, Rantoul. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Melvin was born December 1, 1925 in Fisher the son of George and Margaret Swartz Webster. He married Lola Alcorn in 1947 in Fisher. He married Lois Chaney Sears on August 2, 1963, at the First United Methodist Church, Champaign. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2013.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna L. (Don) Osborn of West Lafayette, IN, Jo E. Webster of Nashville, TN; two step daughters, Georgia Taylor of Flagstaff, AZ, Laurel Hultgren of Rantoul; one step son, Doug (Debbie) Sears of St. Joseph; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and one brother, Don Webster of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, and one great granddaughter.
As an adult, Melvin went to Illinois University, Normal to further his education and obtain degrees. He served in the United States Navy for two years and the Naval reserves until 1972. Melvin was a member or Rantoul First United Methodist Church. He worked for over 50 years as an instructor at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul. Melvin was a member of the Chanute Air Museum for many years.
Anyone who knew Melvin was aware of his great love for cars and though out the years he had many antique and exotic cars. He played the saxophone and loved music. He was also known for his sense of humor and liked to make people laugh.
