Obituary

Nancy Jo Adkins, 58, of Sibley passed away at 12:53 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.

A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, 925 N State Route 47, Gibson City with Pastor Nick Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sibley. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the church.

Nancy was born June 12, 1959 in Decatur the daughter of John E. and Marlid Luy Burkhart. She married Lonnie Adkins December 31, 1980 in Paxton. He survives.

Along with her husband, Lonnie, she is survived by two sons, Bryan (Tiffany) Rollins of Sibley, Shaun (Pam) Adkins of Gibson City; one daughter, Jaime Adkins of Sibley; six grandchildren, Parker Rollins, Noah Adkins, Vaida Adkins, Addyson Rollins, Bryce Adkins, Landry Adkins; her parents, John E and Marlid Burkhart of Sibley; two sisters, Myra (Bob) Stephens of Sibley, Charlene (Perry) Lane of rural Melvin; mother-in-law, Phyllis Adkins of Paxton; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; two sisters, Kathy and Christina Burkhart and father-in-law, Ardith "Elmo" Adkins.

Nancy graduated from Melvin-Sibley High School. She was a preschool teacher for many years.

Nancy was a member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, Gibson City. She received the Seed of Hope Award for raising $100,000 for ALS Research with the Nancy Adkins Golf for a Cure at the Railside Golf Club, Gibson City. She enjoyed spending time with friends, going to NASCAR races, camping and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Nancy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
