It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Normand Ross, who departed this life on September 21, 2026, at the age of 94. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, Norm was the son of John B. and Fabiola (Côté) Ross. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Priscilla (Pat) Ross; his parents; and his four brothers and their wives: Roland (Simone), Roger (Lillian), Bert (Helen), and Robert (Teresa).

Norm is survived by his daughters, Judy (Terry) Glazik and Cheri (Ralph) Esgar, and his son, Ken (Sally) Ross. He was also a treasured “Popsie” to six grandchildren (Amy, Stacy, Lindsey, Carey, Morgan, and Owen), eleven great-grandchildren (Cylie, Elle, Allison, Marin, Chase, Nora, Mara, Madi, Ben, Taylor, and Aurora), and three great-great-grandchildren (Walker, Weslyn, and Ada).

Norm served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Shenandoah and USS Vulcan, repairing destroyers and submarines. In 1952, he was deployed to the Sixth Fleet, joining Navy occupation forces in the Mediterranean Sea. He later enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base.

After completing his military service, Norm remained at Chanute Air Force Base as a civil servant. During this time, he continued his education at Parkland College and the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education in 1971. He served as an instructor at the Aircraft Instrument School at Chanute, teaching both military personnel and civilians, and took pride in developing curriculum in aircraft and missile technology and meteorology.

Norm was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, reflecting his lasting commitment to those he served alongside. A military honor guard will pay tribute to his service and dedication.

A faithful and devoted member of St. Mary Parish in Paxton, Norm was involved in the church choir and the maintenance of the church and rectory, and he played a significant role in the project to construct a gable roof on the parish center. He was also a proud charter member of the Paxton Council of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as the first financial secretary.

Norm enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing. He expressed his creativity and craftsmanship through woodworking and wood burning, which brought him joy and allowed him to create cherished gifts for family and friends.

He will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his faith and church, and the deep love he shared with his family across five generations.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Iroquois Memorial Hospice, Watseka, for the exceptional and compassionate care provided to our Dad and Popsie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 5:00 - 7:00pm, with the Rosary recited at 4:45pm, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 W. Pells St., Paxton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, at 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Paxton with Father MM officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton with full military honors by the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150.
