Oscar "Dick" Orr, 91 of Dewey, departed this life and passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Saviour on December 2, 2024, at Goldwater Care, Gibson City.

Terry Davis, Chaplain at The Christian Village, Lincoln will conduct graveside services at Willowbrook Cemetery, Fisher at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024.  Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

He was born on December 5, 1932, the son of Clarence and Genevieve (Bayler) Orr at Fisher.  At age 22 he married Marjorie Oathout, the little school teacher at Fisher High, on June 25, 1955, at the Loda Methodist Church.  She survives.

Also surviving are his brother, Don (Linda) Orr of Orange City, FL; two sisters, Sharon Darr of Tremont and Charlene Mesa of Colorado Springs, CO as well as nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary.

He first learned about God at age 10 as he attended a local Vacation Bible School.  At age 15 he attended a tent revival service conducted by a local minister in the town of Dewey.  He could see he needed the Lord in his life and accepted Him at age 15.  From that time forward he has served the Lord to the best of his ability.  He has been blessed by following His teachings and His word.

Dick graduated from Fisher High School with the class of 1951.  He was active in FFA and was also a leading member of the basketball team who won the Champaign County Tournament in 1951.

He served on the board of directors of the Fisher Farmers Grain and Coal Company for 20 years, many of them as secretary.  In his younger years he worked very diligently to get the Fisher Elevator to grow into a cooperative which now serves many patrons.  He saw the first 100 car train leave the Dewey facility.

In 1968 he was chosen to be the JC outstanding Young Farmer of Champaign County.  He then tied for fourth place in the state contest.  During that year he and Marge built their new home on the first 80 acres he purchased.  They have enjoyed this home tremendously throughout the ensuing years.

Dick was instrumental in the farming and planning of The River Valley Church of Christ at Fisher.  He served in many capacities from janitor to Sunday School teacher to elder always serving the Lord to the best of his ability.  He was a gifted teacher for 20 years.  His students loved him and were responsible for his being recognized as the "teacher of the week" in the Lookout, a publication of the Church of Christ.

He was currently a member of The Paxton Church of Christ and has faithfully supported them for several years.  He has considered it an honor and a privilege to serve the Lord his entire life.

Dick was born to be a farmer, a vocation he loved throughout his life.  He liked the field work, but his real passion was livestock as he raised hogs, cattle, a flock of sheep, and last of all a herd of dairy goats.

A big thank you goes out to the many health care workers who have assisted him through his life's journey.  It has been a great trip.  We couldn't have done it without you.
