Paul W. Adams, 97, of Ludlow passed away at 11:32 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Gary Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Rantoul with military honors.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Paul was born February 2, 1920 in Rural Gifford, Champaign County the son of Clyde and Chloe Jane Dunlap Adams. He married Velora Gladys Browning in 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 22, 1986.
He is survived by two sons, Warren R. (Linda) Adams of Bloomington; Alan W. Adams of Ludlow; three grandchildren, Yvonne Adams of Bloomington, Chad (Sue) Adams of Grayslake, Stacie (Bill) Croff of Bloomington; four great grandchildren, Jordan, Dylan, Ashton and Avery and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Everett Adams, Francis "Bus" Adams and Robert Adams.
Paul attended Penfield High School and graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1938. He served in the United States Army Air Corps and was stationed in Wichita Falls and Lubbock, Texas. He was co-owner of Bogart's, Champaign and a real estate broker in Rantoul.
He was a member of the Loda Country Club and the Ludlow American Legion. He was a good basketball player and played a lot of independent basketball when he was younger. He enjoyed horse racing, attending the Kentucky Derby and playing cards with his friends. He was always eager to lend a helping hand.
