Obituary

Mrs. Phyllis Wright, 89, of Rantoul passed away at 1:30 am Sunday (December 24, 2023) at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec 29, 2023, at American Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Rantoul with the Rev. Debra Domeier officiating.  Burial will follow in Eden Park Cemetery, Rantoul.

Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 29. at American Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Rantoul.  Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Phyllis was born July 24, 1934, in Posey County, IN to the late Theodore and Florence Krietenstein.  She married Doug Wright on Aug 12, 1956, in Mount Vernon, IN.

Phyllis is survived by a sister, Martha (Krietenstein) Schmitz of Evansville, IN; a son, Mark (Jill) Wright of Naperville; granddaughter, Melissa (Dillon) Thomas of Naperville, two grandsons Nicholas Wright (Gia) of Naperville and Christopher Wright of Chicago, as well as two great granddaughters, Veda Thomas and Jordan Wright.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug, her parents and a brother, Don Krietenstein.

Phyllis graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, IN and received her nursing diploma in St. Louis, MO.  Phyllis moved to Rantoul with her husband in 1957 where he opened a dental office.  Phyllis worked along with her husband in his practice for 58 years.  In this role, she interacted with many in the community.

She was a member of American Lutheran Church, Rantoul, and a former member of the Altar Guild.  She also served on the Board at Country Health Nursing Home.

Phyllis was a very good cook and she baked from traditional recipes handed down from her mother.   When visiting Naperville, she would usually bring a batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies.  Phyllis enjoyed flowers and working in her yard.  She was blessed with kind friends and wonderful neighbors who supported her in her desire to remain in her home until the good Lord called her to eternal rest.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lutheran Church, Rantoul.
