Richard Dean Wise, 84 of Champaign, passed away at 3:57 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E.  Pells Street, Paxton with Pastor Hank Sanford officiating.   Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton with military honors.

Visitation will be before the service from 10:00-12:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Richard was born November 6, 1938, in Clearville, Pennsylvania the son of John Horace and Nettie Mae Swisher Wise.  He married Barbara Hess; she preceded him in death.  He married Marlena Skonberg July 31, 1981, at the Paxton Church of Christ.  She survives.

Along with his wife, Marlena, he is survived by one daughter, Laura Lynna Pratt of Champaign; one sister and a brother-in-law Norris (Susan) Skonberg of Paxton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, six sisters and first wife, Barbara.

Richard graduated from Everett Southern High School in 1956.  He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 30 years 1956-1986 as a weather observer, weather forecaster and weather officer in charge of the Marine Corps Administration Detachment at Chanute Air Force Base and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. During his service, he had been stationed in Viet Nam.   After retirement, he delivered books for the Lincoln Trail Libraries System for a number of years.

He attended the C-U Church, Urbana and was a lifetime member of the Richard L. Pittman Marine Corps League #1231, VFW Havelock, NC and the American Legion of Everett, PA.
