Robert D. "Bob" Thompson, 91 of Paxton, died at 12:24 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Paxton Covenant Church, 260 S. Union, Paxton with Pastor Keith Reuther officiating.  Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton with military honors accorded by the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon Saturday prior to the funeral service at the church.  Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Bob was born February 1, 1934, in Paxton the son of Lewis and Eldora Swanson Thompson.  He married Janet Sandstedt August 17, 1957 at the Paxton Covenant Church.  She survives.

Along with his wife, Janet, he is survived by three daughters, Cindy (Rick) Schaumburg of Bloomington, Julie (Kurt) Edwards of Loda, Chris Bock of Loda; 7 grandchildren, Eric (Renee) Schaumburg, Lisa (Tim) Stanek, Laura (Ryan) Gross, Austin (Alisha) Edwards, Ally (Andrew) Briones, Emily (Jordan) Lange, Jake (Kristi) Bock; 15 great grandchildren; a brother, Ron Thompson of Loda; a very special member  of the family and former Foreign Exchange Student, Joy Constantine of Australia; and several very special nieces and nephews.

Bob graduated from Paxton High School in 1952.  He served in the United States Army 1955-57.  Bob was a life-long farmer and the fourth generation to farm the family farm.  He continued to stay involved with the farm after his retirement.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church.  Bob was a very active member of the Paxton Covenant Church.  He was a member of the Singing Men of WGNN and the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150.  Bob served on the EIEC Board for 20 years.  He also did custom corn shelling and sold L.G. and Dekalb Seed Corn.

Bob was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.  He enjoyed football, golf, RV camping and softball.  He was playing senior softball until the age of 85 and then continued to umpire the game.
