Sally M Kenney, 92, of Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away at 6:30 AM on Monday June 12, 2023 at John Knox Village, Pompano Beach, Florida.
She was born January 18, 1931 in Champaign Illinois, the daughter of Robert James and Beulah Roberts Vredenburgh. After her father passed away she was adopted by Charles A. (Mike) Pricer. She married John Edward (Jack) Kenney on January 5, 1952.
Sally graduated from Paxton High School in 1949. She earned an Associate's degree from Stephens College, Columbia, MO and attended the University of Illinois. After her marriage, Sally and Jack lived in Quincy, Freeport, Rock Island, and Pontiac, Illinois. She later relocated to Springfield, IL. Sally and Jack spent 13 years in Quincy, where she was a President of the Madison School PTA, a member of the Quincy Service League, and an active member of the Vermont Street Methodist Church.
Sally devoted 30 years of her life to the Rock Island, Moline, and Pontiac Public schools systems where she assisted many teachers and students. Some of her favorite years were at Arrowhead Boys Ranch.
Sally was an active member of the Laurel United Methodist Church of Springfield where she was a member of the Clara Swain Circle and a Stephen Ministries. She was a member of PEO Chapter D.C., Springfield and Vice President of the Juvae Jazz Society of Decatur, IL. She enjoyed playing bridge, attending jazz festivals, and traveling. Most of all, she liked spending time with her family.
Sally is survived by her 3 daughters: Jacki (Brian) Feldhahn Chandler, AZ, Sandra (Neil) Puhse Lighthouse Point, FL, Lisa (Robert Howard) Kenney Maryland Heights, MO, one son: Reed (Gretchen) Kenney Chandler, AZ. Seven grandsons: Matthew Thompson, Ross Thompson, Jack (Kara) Dougherty, Scott Puhse, Samuel (Brooke) Manning, Kenneth Manning, and Andrew Kenney. Two Granddaughters: Emily Pomeroy (Raf Adams) and Natalie (Ryan) Penniman. And four 4 great- grandchildren: Brielle Thompson, Silas Dougherty, Eisley and Damien Adams, and many nieces and nephews. Sally has one sister, Joyce (Alden) Shipp, Quincy, IL.
Sally is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her in-laws, John F. and Edna Kenney, and her special friend Evan (Pete) Peterson.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Baier Funeral Services, 406 E Pells, Paxton, IL followed by a service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Pat Allin officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
