Obituary

Sheri Lou Fletcher-Roy, age 72, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, at 2:15 p.m. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and to all those whose lives she touched.

Sheri Lou Fletcher-Roy was born on February 26, 1954, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Deena and Frank Ramey. She graduated from Summerville High School in Summerville, South Carolina, and went on to build a distinguished career in personnel with the United States Air Force Civil Service.

Through her career, Lou had the opportunity to experience life in many places and cultures. Her assignments took her from Ramstein Air Base in Germany to Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, and later to Michigan, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Ohio. Though she traveled far and experienced much throughout her career, she always considered Gifford her home.

Lou retired from Headquarters, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where she served as a GS-15 in Personnel. Her career reflected her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving others.

Throughout her life, Lou was known for her compassionate heart, giving nature, and genuine love for others. She never knew a stranger and had a special gift for making everyone she encountered feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Wherever life took her, she formed meaningful connections and left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her.

Family was the cornerstone of Lou's life. She was the beloved wife of John Roy and a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her daughter, Autumn (Phillip) Wake; grandchildren Ryan Sciarra, Jay (Brittany) Hasse, Jr., William (Baleigh) Wake, and Tyler Wake; and great-grandchildren Kya, Donald III, Dean, Dexter, and Eloise. She is also survived by her siblings, Stephanie (Mark) Billings, Teri Dix, Jary Wonder, Cheryl Ramey, and Lisa (Danny) Hoch.

Lou possessed a remarkable giving spirit. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or share what she had with someone in need. Her compassion was evident in both the quiet, everyday acts of kindness and the many ways she supported those around her. She gave freely of her time, her heart, and herself, never seeking recognition in return.

She spent her days delivering meals to those in need, serving alongside Pastor Gary, making to-do lists for her great-nephew, Colton James, and evenings solving the world's problems on her niece Brooke’s back deck.

Above all, Lou treasured her family. She took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. Her home and heart were always open, and she had a way of bringing people together and making them feel as though they belonged.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Deena Ramey, her brother Mark Ramey, and her brother-in-law Ron Dix, and her 1st grandson AJ Ciccone who remained an important part of her life and memories.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gifford, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Food Pantry in Lou’s memory. Lou was a very involved member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she loved to worship with her granddaughter Kya.

Lou’s presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

“Her greatest legacy was not what she possessed, but what she so freely gave to others.”
