Velma Rose Meyer, 83, of Paxton passed away at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Gibson Area Hospital Annex, Gibson City.

There will be no services held. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Velma was born August 17, 1935 in Artesia Twp., Iroquois County the daughter of John Isaac and Mary Sophia Enz Steiner. She married Jack Corrington Meyer June 17, 1956 in Cissna Park. He preceded her in death May 7, 2016.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Bill) Alsene of Bloomington and Jacqueline Meyer of Paxton; her sister, Lois (Gerald) Vogel of Champaign as well as many nieces and nephews and longtime good friend Stan Koschnick of Buckley.

Velma graduated high school and received a Bachelors Degree in History from Illinois State University, Normal. She was an accountant for France Broom Company, Paxton for 55 years. She and her husband owned and operated the Western Auto Store on North Market Street, Paxton for many years.

She enjoyed Bears football and loved watching birds, especially Cardinals. She also enjoyed visiting with her relatives from Switzerland.
