Obituary

Vernon G. Luhrsen, 100 of Buckley, passed away at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Prairieview Lutheran Home, Danforth.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley with Rev. J. Kevin Wyckoff officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Buckley with military honors.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral service beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Baier Family Funeral Service, Buckley is assisting the family with arrangements.

Vernon was born August 4, 1918 in Buckley the son of George and Alma Marr Luhrsen. He married Irene Hilgendorf October 8, 1944 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley. She preceded him in death October 9, 2002.

He is survived by four children, Joyce (Charles) Saparnis of Ft. Myers, Florida, Dennis (Patricia) Luhrsen of Champaign, Carol (Morris) Cook of Ocala, Florida, Dale (Susan) Luhrsen of Buckley; six grandchildren, Laurel (Scott) Perley of Philadelphia, PA, Brian Saparnis of Muncie, Indiana, Allison (Tulle) Alexander of College Station, Texas, Lana (Ruben) Ramirez of Houston, Texas, Sarah Luhrsen of Normal, Dustin Luhrsen of Buckley; three great grandchildren, Nora and Nathan Perley, Barrett Alexander; one sister, Lois Krumwiede of Sacramento, CA and a sister-in-law, Viola Sheetz of St. Louis, MO.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; four brothers, Erwin, Wilbur, Clarence and Gilbert; one sister, Elda and a granddaughter, Hannah Cook.

Vernon served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He farmed for many years and was custodian at St. John's Lutheran Church and School and also at Buckley-Loda High School. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Buckley American Legion Byron A. Hickerson Post 432, Buckley Lions Club and a former Village of Buckley Trustee and President.
