Vernon P. Shedd, 75, of Ludlow passed away at 10:17 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2026 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells St, Paxton.

Vernon was born August 18, 1950 in Cullman, Alabama the son of William and Nova Suits Shedd. He married Kay Bunch on December 30, 2014 in Ohio. She survives.

Along with this wife, Kay, he is survived by a son, Vernon Paul Shedd, Jr. of Lake Havasu, Arizona; two stepsons, Jamie (Shante) Bunch of 29 Palms, California, Tim (Val) Kirchner of Magnolia, Texas; one grandson, Brandon Shedd; five granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Alyssa, Nadya, Nahla, and Sena; and two sisters, Barbara and Maydean.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Vernon graduated from Addison High School in Addison, Alabama. He attended Parkland College, Champaign. Vernon proudly served in the United States Air Force for 22 years from 1971-1993.

After retiring from the Air Force, he was a truck driver for Schneider and Richard Tarvin and in more recent years, Dirt Works. Vernon also worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Leverett Facility and retired from there in 2014.

He was a member of the Loda Sportsman Club, Illinois Skeet Shooting Association and the Ludlow American Legion Post 518.

Vernon enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing, shooting skeet and tinkering with mechanics.
