Warren Lee Meinhardt, 89 of Gibson City, died at 2:43 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2020, at the Gibson City Annex.

There will be no services at this time. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Park, California. Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton is handling arrangements.

Warren was born March 30, 1931 in Inglewood, California the son of Leland Pete and Goldie Carrie Kump Meinhardt. He married Joan Fulbright Handley in 1953 in Los Angeles, California.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Leland Warren (Lynn) Meinhardt, Edmund Paul Meinhardt, Glenn Alan (Jessica) Meinhardt; daughter Laura Ann (David) Hazen; seven grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Jason, Justin, Joel, Morgan and Spencer; two step grandchildren and six great-grandchildren Ethan and Madison (Jason) and Cale, Nolan, Coen and Benjamin (Justin).

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Warren grew up in California and graduated from Huntington Beach High School in 1949. He graduated from Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa, California where he was a member of the first class to graduate from the college in 1951; graduated from Pomona College, Claremont, CA Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1953. He attended Stanford University, Stanford, CA 1953-55; transferred to UCLA, Los Angeles 1955-56; transferred to University of California at Berkley in 1956 and received PHD in Romance Languages and Literature in 1960. Warren taught at the University of Illinois 1960-69 and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale from 1969 until his retirement in 2001. He moved to Gibson City in 2005.

He was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor and a current member of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibson City. Warren was a life-long stamp collector. He enjoyed traveling and his time spent in Mexico, Spain, Ecuador and Peru.
